1. Kalemegdan park and fortress

The Belgrade Fortress was founded at the beginning of the first century CE, and changed considerably during the course of history. It is surrounded by Kalemegdan Park. Kalemegdan originates from the Turkish word kale which means fort and and mejdan which means battle. You can learn a lot about the rich history of this complex organized tourist tours. Within the Kalemegdan Park there is a zoo as well a restaurant Kalemegdan terrace, with great views and top local specialties.

2. St. Sava Temple

The Temple of Saint Sava is the largest Orthodox temple in the Balkans. It is built at a place where it is considered to remain burned relics of one of the greatest Serbian saints, Saint Sava. However, research has shown that they are probably burnt in the area of ​​the Tasmajdan park, near the Church of St. Marks. Construction of the temple was started in 1935, and it is still not finished.

3. Avala Tower

The Avala Tower is one of the symbols of Belgrade. If you climb on the Tower in nice weather, you will see all of Serbia. It was commissioned in 1965, and it was demolished during the bombing in 1999. It was three years lasted renewal and reopened in 2010. The tower represents the masterpiece of architecture.

4. Knez Mihailova Street

This is one of the most beautiful streets in Belgrade. Walking it you will also find the National Museum, National theater, the City Library building, faculty buildings, numerous restaurants, pastry shops, bookstores and souvenir shops. Do not miss to enjoy the performances of street artists and entertainers.

5. Taverns

When you come to Belgrade, do not miss to stop at some of the famous Belgrade taverns. Those are places with traditional Serbian music, food and drink. Try smoked ham and kajmak, homemade sarmica and beans, and plum brandy, too!
